Coach - IAG(Senior) Camp

It is not about the number of times you fall, it is about the number of times you step up.

6th to 9th June, IAG Senior Camp. It has been a wonderful journey these 4 days, memorable, crazy, learning, tears, shag, fun. There were 88 participants for this camp which is a big one comparing to the normal ones with 50. I was shocked when i get to know the fee for this camp, $2500. But still there are parents who are willing to send their children over for this 4 days camp from 8am to 11.45pm everyday.

Coaching for the 3rd time at adam khoo's camp but also the 1st time coaching at public camp and IAG camp was a major challenge to me. I didnt went for the training in may but was fortunately recruited in the coaching team for this camp.

I am really happy that i am able to coach for this camp as there are so many things that i have learnt from this camp. I learned how to understand people better, how to speak the truth out appropriately, how important discipline is to succeed. Success is not all about achieving your goal but about moving closer to your goal everyday.

Dealing with teenagers age of 13 to 16 wasnt easy, although their age is just 1 to 4 yrs diff away from the primary school kids, but i realised that just these few years has already created many barriers in front of their real self. For my group, i had 7 individuals of the age 15 to 16. It isnt easy to deal with the sec teenagers really. It is better to talk to the wall than to talk to them. When you talk to them, sometimes they will not respond to you. When i talk to the wall, at least i hear echo and i know i am talking to an non living thing.

In this camp, i see how a bo chap an lian turned into an enthusiatic individual, changing herself, cheering for others and crying at her mistakes. I see how a gangster who has went to boys home before turned into a leader that is participative and focus. He also doesnt mind people looking at his tracking anklet due to the probation, and also sharing his unpleasant past experiences to people, it takes alot courage to do that. Also, someone who is quiet and only talks less than 5 sentences per day changing into someone taking intiative to start conversations with people, and more.

It warms and touches my heart when i see people changing for the better, it makes me feel that the efforts we put in are worth it. Because i am really drained out even the start of the camp, sleeping at 2am and waking up at 6am everyday due to the camp duration of 8am to 11.45 daily but what kept me moving was the children, i told myself not to give up.

I was really exhausted for these 4 days but everytime when i am in front of the kids, i always put on a fresh and cheerful side to let them feel the energy. Imagining doing Disco Rar Rar at 7.50am everyday and also for lunch and dinner too, it was insane but i pulled through.

Most importantly, I am thankful to be in a fun and loving coaching team. I have learnt many things from there especially from this coach, Chuan Lay. He is 28 this year with many coaching experience and i truly respect him. He didnt talked much to me actually on the things to improve on, but the way he dealed with the kids and events. His presence always makes me feel safe.

On the swinging logs, i see many other coaches using the same old lines -"When life is shaky what must you do?" "Are you a winner or loser?" Many coaches only want to get them focus 100% and fighting spirit out. But Chuan Lay is someone who will make them reflect what they did in the past, break their barrier, forget their past and get them to discover their real self. Which what i feel what the main objective of this camp should be.

Seeing how people change these 4 days was amazing. This camp, has been another fruitful and awesome learning experience for me. Seeing different types of personalities, learning how to communicate with them, how to break the barrier in them. From this, i have learnt not to procrastinate much but learn how to appreciate things more.

I know i have many things to learn still but also i know i have many things to offer in this coaching line. This is the first time that i am working and also enjoying myself in my work without any complains and looking at my watch on how much i am earning per hour as time goes by. I love coaching! :D
