Korea - Land of Dreamings

Image
Just shifting from a country to another for nearly a month and i see my life transforming, for the better :) I am touring around well with the international students and also seem to have more conversation to talk to some of my sg friends. Life is really a miracle sometimes. Some little happenings in korea for these 3 weeks. 1) On last thursday, i cluelessly walked into a female toilet. Thinking back of it, i didnt drank any alcohol or beer so i werent drunk for sure. I was just looking for a toilet quite bad. The thing was that, i was so calm. I only found out when i cant seem to find the "man cubicle". When i realised, i was like - "is this a share toilet or sth" but my senses wasnt right so i walked out briskly to check the toilet sign. Gao lat! LOL. Thinking back, why didnt they shout or scream? 2) I was shopping at Myeongdong yesterday. Spotted a nice shirt for $25 sgd, but i liked 2 colors so i asked.. "if i take 2 piece, give me discount" in korean.

I am living my story

Chuseok week is over, chuseok meaning the lantern festival. I had both chinese and korean mooncake, but i miss my durian snowskin one terribly. Last week was a week of fun filled and adventures. 1) Daejeon O world = Amusement park + Zoo + Flowerland + Safari. We the singaporeans went out with 2 chinese ladies from china - tingting and taozhen. Though the odds were really bad - long bus ride, cold weather of 15 degrees and raining through the day. The summary was we had fun :) The amusement park is very much alike sg's escape theme park. Many rides were closed until night due to the poor weather. We hop on to the zoo and i found that the animals here are more active than the ones in singapore. I got some nice pictures on facebook too. Oh there was an animal that made me laugh - 草泥马, it sounds alike with a vulgar phrase commonly used by the china people. Flowerland very much impressed me - they have really nice flowers and places to take some shots and they have a instrument performa

Shopping in Daejeon!

Went to the downtown of daejeon. Its the shopping paradise, 1 day is not enough for us. hahaha. Spent 150 sgd there today, got quite many things. Got myself fred perry singlet, 2 nice shirts, 1 vest, 1 cute bowtie, 1 plain tshirt which i needed, one japanese like sweater and a white sunglasses. Hahahahaha, all these for 150 bucks. I think its worth it actually. But spending so much on the 2nd week stay at korea its abit harsh. So i am gonna control on more spending. When i see really nice shirts, i just go buy it lol. We ate dinner at this noodle shop and ordered the spicy noodle, really spicy that it cost us sticking out our tongue while eating it. Also, we met these 2 malaysians at the stall, they came to us and asked us in chinese "are u all from malaysia?" hahaha. I think we talk too loud thats why. But really nice to meet people who can speak chinese here. Also, i also met these 2 china girls who are really friendly in our dorm. hahaha another 2 people to speak cheena al

Dropped down to Homeplus, Tesco. Spent about 50 bucks there. Bought normal necessity and a shirt that cost $20. I needed a grey shirt, there goes my first grey t-shirt haha. Korea has been good. I dont know if i have put on some weight. It seems that I have, but I have been exercising and doing pushups and pullups everyday. I dont eat alot, now i am sticking to just one portion compared to many portions i can eat in singapore eg like Ban mian + oyster omelette + soya bean. Its all fats. lol. Now i am eating like one main meal and kimchis. A friend of mine said kimchi was smelly, i didnt really realise until my friend said it. lol. For some reasons, i have been eating lesser kimchis for the past few days, more of reddish and mineral water. We dont actually gain much attention in korea, because afterall we are asians, people may even mistake us as koreans. But the differentiation is prolly the dress sense. Koreans have trendy fashion sense, they love wearing a shirt/singlet inside and th

Day 3 - Expenses = $6 SGD Today may spend little but i forgot what i have spent other than a $4 lunch meal. Still walking here and there around the campus, havent really went out to explore yet. 1st day of school in hannam, we had a short orientation, feels funny, doesnt really feel welcomed. The coordinator doesnt seem to be able to understand our english somehow. Is our problem or is it theirs? Anyway, had 2 lessons today - marketing and performance management. The campus is so huge that we had difficulty to find the classroom. Lessons was alright. I actually met up with my buddy in the evening. The plan was to buy a cellphone, but they said i needed an identity card or sth in korea and then we decided to eat, at this chinese restaurant, pretty cheap. Jia jiang mian. Then went to chappel, a compulsory activity every 1st monday of the month. Nth much to say because it was all spoken in korean. Some really foolish things, dont know what to laugh or cry. first hor i forgotten my credit

Day 1 & Day 2 A kiss goodbye to my friends, family and singapore and a 6.5 hrs flight, here i am at korea. Really happy to see some of my friends at the airport before my flight. Thanks for coming lovely friends! Day 1 - Expenses = 37 SGD Going pass the custom with just 5 of us, we looked at each other. We didnt really talk much after the emotional goodbyes with our loved ones. But we know we are all on ourselves right now for the next 4 months. On the plane, met this korean girl beside me and started some convos that kept me accompanied during the flight. The 5am sunset is really lovely. Its my first night flight, and i love it. Getting from seoul incheon airport to our university took us 4 hours. Didnt really took much pictures of the buildings because it doesnt really look marvellous haha. The dorm is pretty but small, but what actually makes it interesting are gonna be my roommates, 4 pple to one dorm, the other 3 are all koreans. I have got two muscular and handsome koreans -

Winter in korea, Dong Ji Lian Ge... Staring at blank spaces of various areas in singapore, and realising that i wont be seeing all these for 4 months. No more market with prawn mee, laksa, chai fan, No more koi, no more toa payoh hub. And of cos, my room. A new place for a temporary change for the next 4 months. Many she bu de, but still have to face the reality. Started signing up for this overseas exchange since jan this year, just out of curiousity. Thinking that all i need was just a pen. hearing the talks, submitting application forms, settling adminstrative matters and going through interviews, slowly getting into it, and after 8 months, here we are going to fly the next day. I will miss speaking chinese to all my cheena friends, I will miss those mens' talk I will miss all the care and concern given by my friends when i am in need of them. I will miss the local delights in singapore, no more laksa, cha gui tiao, bakkwa, chillicrab, hokkien mee, ou-ah-jian and the dim sums. I
